The ANU School of Music is committed to offering music graduates high level qualifications that position them strongly for careers as 21st century music professionals. The rapid change in the way music is presented and consumed in the contemporary world has seen a new focus in the way music degrees are conceived and delivered. 

While still supporting elite artist-level performance training, the School of Music is now positioned to also offer students vital training in such key professional areas as instrumental pedagogy, business and marketing skills, music technology and ensemble directing. Our new Bachelor of Professional Music Practice, introduced in 2010, offers students rich opportunities for training in these areas to support them in building successful careers in a range of music professions.

Through our new Centre for Music Outreach and Research (CMOR) the School of Music will further strengthen its position as a dynamic and creative catalyst in the region. Our outreach program and state of the art videoconferencing studio will enable us to continually build, strengthen and service our active network of links.

To be launched in 2012 our artist-level video conferencing studio will enable the School to open its doors to a world of international music making for students and partners within our regional and national communities. Live streamed concerts, videoconference instrumental and vocal lessons, masterclasses and virtual residencies are some of these exciting new initiatives. 

While the ANU School of Music has a proud and rich tradition in its teaching of elite music performers,  it is now positioned to also play a dynamic role in the future of music training and performance in 21st century Australia as one of the country’s premiere national and international music institutions.
