Julie Rickwood is a music and performance researcher and practitioner based in Canberra, Australia. She is currently a Visiting Fellow at the Research School of Humanities and the Arts, Australian National University.
Her research has concentrated on community choirs. In 1997 Julie completed a master’s thesis entitled “Liberating Voices: Towards an ethnography of women’s community a cappella choirs in Australia” which examined the intersection of gender, identity and singing.
She more recently completed a doctoral research project, “We Are Australian: An ethnographic investigation of the convergence of community music and reconciliation” which focused on a study of three cross-cultural choral interactions in Australia.
Julie has presented at national and international conferences and has been published in a number of peer reviewed and community journals.
