Partnering with the National Portrait Gallery to celebrate the 150th anniversary of French composer and artistic luminary Erik Satie, ANU OSoM tutors, graduates, undergraduates, and visiting artist Stephanie McCallum give an abridged, relay performance of Vexations.

This version, lasting just six hours, will be launched by McCallum at 10am in the Gordon Darling Hall of the NPG.

A team of pianists will rotate every 30 minutes until 4pm by which stage about 700 abridged renditions of the 840 scored repetitions will be reached.

Completed in about 1894, this mammoth, minimalistic, marathon work - up to 35 hours long in its original format - precedes Glass’s Einstein on the Beach and the Minimalist movement by almost a century.
