ANU New Music Ensemble

The ANU New Music Ensemble, directed by Dr Alexander Hunter, will present a varied set of works from the past 100 years composed exclusively by women composers. Ranging from Lili Boulanger to Yoko Ono to young composers like the Chloë Hobbs (Australia) and Lauren Redhead (England), and a new arrangement from one of the NME members of a piece by Ellen Taffe-Zwillich, the first woman composer ever to win the Pulitzer Prize for Music. This Floriade concert is one in a series of seven events in Canberra devoted to recent works by women composers. The NME’s programme this semester is designed to inspire and encourage young Australian musicians, and bring a greater recognition to these fantastic, oft-overlooked works.
