Publications Intern

Position Remuneration: $1000

ANU School of Music 50th Anniversary 1965-2015

Position Description           

This internship is specifically attached to one 50th Anniversary School of Music Project.

In conjunction with the 50th Anniversary celebrations, The School of Music, through the Open School of Music Student Outreach and Engagement Program, is seeking to develop the skills and, experience, and contacts of a student interested and experienced in the field of developing a small print publication. The successful applicant will be working with a small team of staff who are delivering a small print publication in conjunction with ANU Media and Publications and ANU Reporter. The successful Intern will be developing and writing a number of stories and chronologies concerning the School of Music. The publication and articles will be disseminated to the public in August and September 2015. This role has several particular components, and is well supported with additional content producers and publication managers at ANU.

  • Content Research and Sourcing: The successful Intern will be working to a series of short briefs to source information about particular themes and topics, which will be featured in the 50th Anniversary Publication.
  • Writing Materials and Articles: From researched materials and information provided, the Intern will be producing short articles and stories. All materials produced by the intern, with the support of the teams they will be working with from both the School of Music and ANU Media, will be credited to the Intern.
  • Communicating With and Providing Materials to ANU Media: The Intern will be working directly with members of the School of Music Project and Events team, as well as the ANU Media team. When stories are commissioned, agreed on, or completed, the Intern will be reporting to and working with these team members, to meet production and publication deadlines.

Outcomes of Internship

At the close of the Internship, the Intern will have contributed substantially to the production and publication of a short booklet celebrating the history of the School of Music, as well as playing a role in facilitating a feature series in the ANU Reporter. The skills acquired during the Internship period are vital to a young Arts or Writing professional looking to expand their knowledge of the publishing and media industries, and heighten their fluency in the field.

The successful applicant will also be welcomed into a community of Arts Professionals, who are keen to grow a proactive and supportive community for students and new artists, who are looking to develop skills vital to their emerging artistic careers.

At the close of the internship, the successful applicant will receive a letter of support or recommendation, upon request, to assist them in seeking further opportunities in the fields of Editorial, Publication and Writing. The internship will be conducted under the supervision and support of both the Events Coordinator and Projects Officer at the School of Music.
