Canberra Symphony Orchestra presents Canberra Weekly Matinee Magic
Nicholas Milton – Conductor
The Band of the Royal Military College, Duntroon
Imagine the magnificent power of a gigantic symphony orchestra - now, imagine the raw explosive power of Australia’s proudest military band. And now, imagine them both together on stage at Llewellyn Hall. STRIKE UP THE BAND - an historic collaboration between your Canberra Symphony Orchestra and the stunning Band of the Royal Military College, Duntroon - this concert will be the most extraordinary sonic experience of the Centenary year.
Featuring breathtaking symphonic highlights, this once in a lifetime concert event will be directed by the Canberra Symphony Orchestra’s fantastically energetic Chief Conductor, Nicholas Milton. Experience Nick marshalling this magnificent musical battalion in repertoire that includes Sousa’s Stars and Stripes, the Light Cavalry Overture, and the Dambusters Overture. Nick’s conducting a lot in Vienna these days, but at this concert, you can revel in the spectacle of Strauss’ Thunder and Lighning Polka as it has never been heard before! Not in Vienna and not in Australia. And for our Grand Finale, of course, the 1812 overture, delivered with full military effects.
This will be the biggest program of the year and very probably the loudest concert experience you are ever likely to have. But it is also a wonderfully moving collaboration between two of the capital’s most distinguished musical traditions.
