The 2017 Friends Ensemble Prize was a fantastic night with four entries in the Chamber Music section and four in the Contemporary and Jazz section. The Chamber Music Prize of $1,000 was won by Katrina Tang and Hanul Lee for their superb piano duet. Highly commended for the Chamber Music Section was awarded to Owen Elliot and Benjamin Grace for their masterful guitar duet. Katrina and Hanul also took out the Chamber Music People's Choice Prize of $500.
An excellent multilingual set from the five member act the Sixth Dimension took out the Contemporary and Jazz Prize of $1,000. The character driven Prisoners of Jazzkaban took out Highly Commended featuring an impressive original song by Sophie Edwards. The Sixth Dimension also won the People's Choice $500 prize which was voted by an appreciative audience of friends, family and supporters.

The judging panel; respected violinist, conductor and ANU faculty member Tor Fromyhr, Friends of the School representative Marilyn Higgins, School of Music Alumna, classical percussionist Veronica Bailey, much-loved and respected saxophonist and jazz faculty member John Mackey, and School of Music Alumni, guitarist extraordinaire Lachlan Coventry - thank you! To the Friends of the School of Music who give practical and financial support to students of the ANU School of Music, sincere thanks for the Friends Ensemble Prize and what was a captivating night of entertainment.
