From Spain to Rumania, Argentina, Belgian, Ecuador, Paraguay, Brazil, Uruguay, France, German, Bulgaria, Chile, EE.UU, Portugal, Colombia, Japan, Italy, Czech Republic, Cuba, Mongolia, Letonia, Costa Rica, Mexico and Australia, will celebrate with Music the 230 Anniversary of Father Antonio Soler in 2013.
Pianist Marcela Fiorillo, recognised by the critics for her “ sublime and elegant style and exquisite sensitivity ”, will enrich this celebration - representing Australia - with a Concert which will transform this Homage into a Festival of Spanish Music.
The late nineteenth century produced a wave of nationalistic composers throughout Europe, who used rhythms and melodies of their native lands in their music. Dance forms and popular melodies of Spain have long been admired and brilliantly displayed in the piano literature.
The Program - including even Sephardim music - will quote marvellous pages from the finest piano repertoire by Father Antonio Soler, Isaac Albeniz, Enrique Granados, Joaquin Turina and Manuel de Falla; fulfilling a fascinating journey along Five Centuries of Spanish Music.
It is a rare privilege to hear this repertoire which is not so often performed.
Introduced by Prof. Peter Tregear, Head of ANU School of Music
