Inspired by traditional Afro-Peruvian rhythms and songs, the Daniel Susnjar Afro-Peruvian Jazz Group presents original compositions which combine infectious grooves, emotive melodies, risk-taking improvisation and extreme dynamics.

The Daniel Susnjar Afro-Peruvian Jazz Group was originally formed in Miami, USA in 2011, while Daniel earned his Doctoral degree in Afro-Peruvian jazz drumming from the University of Miami Frost School of Music. Having returned to his home of Perth, Australia in 2013 after publishing his ground-breaking dissertation on Afro-Peruvian drumming, Susnjar is now regarded as an international authority on this unique drumming approach, and spearheads an ensemble featuring a collection of Australia's finest musical talent including Daniel Susnjar – drums/compositions, Ricki Malet – trumpet, Luke Minness – saxophone, Harry Mitchell – piano, Jeremy Thomson – guitar, Zac Grafton – bass and Iain Robbie – percussion.

Performing throughout the USA and Australia, The Daniel Susnjar Afro-Peruvian Jazz Group has earned critical acclaim and gained respect as a vital component in the development of Afro-Peruvian jazz on an international level. Following on from collaborations with artists including Grammy award-winning trumpeter Brian Lynch, Vivian Sessoms, Sammy Figureoa, Troy Roberts and Freddy Huevito Lobaton, the ensemble won the 2016 WAM award for Best Jazz Act, with Susnjar also receiving Best Drummer/Percussionist honors.
