ANU School of Music is a leading centre for research in the fields of Australian Indigenous music, composition, ethnomusicology, historical musicology, music curatorship, music engagement and outreach, music technology, music theory and analysis, organology, historically informed performance, and popular music. We promote a vibrant research culture that actively engages with issues of social justice, sustainability and ethics, and contributes to innovation in the fields of musical creativity, scholarship and public policy. Our highly active staff works on a range of research projects to produce scholarly publications, live performances and other creative outputs, and provide expert supervision for research students working across a diverse range of topics.

In addition to this interdisciplinary research base, staff at ANU School of Music hold considerable expertise in a number of specific fields of inquiry.
