Bachelor of Professional Music Practice
The Bachelor of Professional Music Practice is a new and innovative three-year undergraduate program designed for students wishing to study music and enter into a music-related career but who do not aspire to become elite performers.
Students of the Professional Music Practice degree will have the opportunity to be trained across the diverse areas of the music industry for careers in studio teaching, arts administration, festival and event management, community music administration, sound design and a wide range of other music-related careers.
Program Structure
Students may chose to specialize in one of the following areas or construct a program of study to suit their particular career aspirations:
Arts and Music Management
This provides students with training in business administration and marketing, writing for the music profession and event and festival management.
Instrumental Pedagogy
Introduces students to the theories and practices of instrumental music education providing practical activities to gain an understanding of theories of learning and the roles and responsibilities of being an instrumental teacher.
Creative Recording Practice
Explores the world of sound recording including all aspects the recording environment - equipment and software, recording techniques, resource management, industry practices and the musical and non-technical aspects of recording and production.
Students may also choose electives from a suite of musicology, aural, music theory courses and other courses offered within the School and more broadly across the University
Professional Practice Project
A key feature of the program are the Professional Practice Project courses which enable students to work within leading ACT and Australian music organizations and festivals to develop a range of skills for working in the music profession.
