Harp

Harp students at the School of Music have a wide range of performance opportunities as part of the substantial outreach program at the School of Music and are encouraged to find their own individual voice. Strong focus is placed on correct and efficient use of the body following the Salzedo technique, and influenced by the Alexander and Feldenkrais methods, with an emphasis on building a solid, relaxed technical basis to equip the student for life-long development at the instrument.
A wide range of repertoire is encouraged including electro-acoustic, jazz, baroque and early classical performance practice and contemporary music. Ensemble playing is also an important part of each course, with weekly rehearsals and public performances.
Head of Area, Alice Giles runs an associated summer course annually at the ANU Coastal Campus at Kioloa (NSW).In addition, The ANU School of Music is host to the Australian Harp Festival every four years, and co-host to the World Harp Congress in 2014.
