Position Remuneration: $1000
Duration of Position: 5 months July 2015 - November 2015
The School of Music, through the Open School of Music Student Outreach and Engagement Program, is interested in developing the skills of a music or media student interested in engaging in online communications and marketing. The position, of no more than one day per week, involves updating and utilising all of the School of Music’s social media accounts to help promote events and celebrations at the school, as well as building an online persona for the School of Music, that involves sharing interesting articles and interviews published externally to the School and University. There are several components to this position:
- Project Management: As part of the 50th Anniversary celebrations, the School of Music is inviting students, teachers, and members of the public to tweet for the @SoM_ANU twitter account. Working in collaboration with the 50th Anniversary Project Officer, you will be organising the smooth-running of this project.
- Information Sourcing: For both the ANU School of Music Twitter and Facebook accounts, you will be sourcing current news articles, and information about upcoming events at the School of Music, to share among our followers.
- Social Media Posting & Tone Development: In collaboration with support from the Events Coordinator and Project Manager positions, you will be responsible for the ongoing and regular posts on the School of Music Twitter and Facebook accounts. You are welcome to develop this through a program like HootSuite,
- There is also room in this role to take on small journalistic projects for publication on the ANU School of Music website, the 50th Anniversary web page, and potentially the College of Arts and Social Sciences website. The intern will also be in communication with the CASS Communcations and Marketing team.
Outcomes of Internship
This internship is designed to offer the successful applicant ongoing and supported experience in the field of online communications. It will give the applicant an opportunity to develop and deepen their understanding of social media, promotion through social media, brand toning, and content production. Each of these skills are vital, in a contemporary climate, to growing a performer or academic’s outreach and profile.
The successful applicant will also be welcomed into a community of Arts Professionals, who are keen to grow a proactive and supportive community for students and new artists, who are looking to develop skills vital to their emerging artistic careers.
At the close of the internship, the successful applicant will receive a letter of support or recommendation, upon request, to assist them in seeking further opportunities in the professional field of Arts Communications. The internship will be conducted under the supervision and support of both the Events Coordinator and Projects Officer at the School of Music.
